Seve Wants British Open Brought Back To St. Andrews

There is absolutely no denying the fact that this year's British Open, already 3 rounds in, has been an incredibly entertaining one so far.  Full of roller coaster emotions, shockingly great play by surprisingly aged players, shockingly bad play by the best player in the world, and now, a chance to see the oldest golfer in the history of the PGA Tour win a major.  Wow.  That said, there is also something to say about watching the British Open take place on the hallowed grounds of St. Andrews.

Ballesteros Wants A Return to St. Andrews

Looks like we're not the only ones that get a bit misty eyed and nostalgic for ol' St. Andrews.  According to new reports, Seve Ballesteros is pushing, and pushing hard for a return to St. Andrews for the 2010 British Open.  Maybe it's as they say, maybe watching Tom Watson continue to fight for the lead at this year's British that is making Seve want to play again, despite the fact that he has had to endure four operations on a malignant brain tumor, as a way to say Thank You to all of his British fans that have cheered him on for 30 years.

Seve Sounds Off...

When asked about his feelings on the matter, Seve was brief but concise:

“I would love to play at St. Andrews next year for the British public, it’s an objective I would like to turn into reality."

Whether or not that reality will actually happen, remains to be seen, but I know one thing for sure:  We'd be pulling for it the whole way.  There is something so inherently "British Open" about St. Andrews and it brings memories from so many different amazing tournaments that have taken place there.  The birthplace of golf, the British Open, it just fits.
